Where will social media be in 5 years? 10 years? Think back to past years and consider major communication tools like TikToK and SnapChat are still relatively new. Imagine traveling back in time 10 years and explaining to someone about sending videos of you with AI generated bunny ears in a disappearing video. They would laugh at you. Personally I enjoy watching the original Star Trek from the 1960s and seeing their technology that was basically iPads, smartphones, bluetooth headphones, cordless medical scanners, and voice activated AI controls. This was over 50 years ago. So who knows where the next few years, if not a decade will bring us with new tools and technology for communication. One of the current emerging tech tools I’m following is Virtual Reality. I know most people see it as just a way to play video games. But the largest VR company, Oculus, is now owned by Facebook. Obviously Facebook thinks that in the near future, you won’t browse someone’s timeline, you’ll instead experience it yourself in VR. For this assignment I want you to look into the company Oculus and where they are at with releasing new hardware and software, and then try to speculate where Facebook is going with the VR technology. Some of it is already here (360 degree photos?). Write up a 2-3 paragraphy essay on what you think the future holds.
