CULTURE AND COMMUNICATION Case

The module readings explored barriers to cross-cultural communication and the importance of respecting and accepting cultural differences in working with individuals and communities in health services delivery.

For this assignment, consider the following case and how you would react to actions/events taking place in another culture. In April 2019, Megan Specia reported in the New York Times about changes that have taken place in Brunei. These changes include the plans to enforce Islamic law on the LGBT community with the likelihood of stoning to death and amputation if found guilty. Read the article entitled Facing Uproar, Brunei Says Stoning Law Is Meant to Educate and Nurture. In a 3- to 5-page paper, address the following:

Discuss the feelings this article evoked in you. This should be in the first person.
Discuss the external forces that impact the evolution of this culture, including factors beyond the information presented in the article. You will need to do some research for this.
Discuss the impact that barriers to communication had on your reaction including:
Ethnocentricity
Stereotyping
Ethnic Glossing
Discuss how this information can assist you as a health practitioner. Again, this should be in the first person.
Note: In your write-up, use section headings for each question and subheadings for each of the sub-categories.
